Michael McPadden has to answer a few questions concerning his most recent FEC report much better than he did when Bill Hay, Verga’s Campaign manager, questioned him on Joe Thomas’ morning show. When asked about personal disbursements to himself, his wife and his son in the total of $10,132.00 that was listed in the report, Mr. McPadden claimed they were reimbursements for money spent for the campaign. http://query.nictusa.com/cgi-bin/dcdev/forms/C00466730/463208/sb/ALL
I have several questions concerning this answer, why were they not labeled as reimbursements like other entries were and why when questioned could McPadden not remember what the reimbursements were for. It would seem that he would recall what a $4,000.00 payment to his wife was about. Another curious aspect on these “reimbursements” is that they are all perfectly round numbers, ($4000, $2000, $3000) like they were payroll amounts. Other reimbursements to Michael have odd numbers including cents and have notations for travel or office supplies but not these major items, there was nothing to identify what they were for. As was brought up on the program nothing was illegal about these transactions but he seems to be the only candidate who is using donor money for his personal expenses. If Michael needs money to live off while he is campaigning then why not lend less money to the campaign and use personal funds for living expenses. One note to remember of the $9,000.00 paid to him and his wife not one cent was for repayment of the loan he made to the campaign. http://query.nictusa.com/cgi-bin/dcdev/forms/C00466730/463208/sc/ALL
Mr. McPadden has just recently sent out an email requesting more donations, before people send him more money he might want to explain to his contributors what he has been doing with 1/3 of the donations he has received to date. Even though Michael considers this is a “piddling” issue, I believe those who have not drunk his cool aid would disagree. Conservatives for years have complained about this type of nepotism in government and now we have a candidate who claims to be a reformer doing it even before he gets into office.

Lets see a poll that will help alot of undecided voters.
I highly doubt Bill Hay would be the first to discover this supposed error. The FEC does their job well and to infer there is anything wrong with the McPadden’s filing smells of sore loser. Let’s not jump on the McPadden bashing bandwagon, as the leader in the 5th, the man has enough smear campaigns trying to ruin him.
Read the post, there is nothing illegal about paying your family. The question is how ethical is it?
I heard this on the radio, Mike said the FEC accepted these line items as reimbursements for credit card purchases for the campaign. I checked the FEC website and the truth is that the McPadden’s are paying their son $500 a month as treasurer, a very low amount considering the amount work. The other amounts were exactly as Mike said on the radio, reimbursements that were accepted by the FEC as legitimate campaign expense reimbursments.
I even called the FEC but that was like calling the DMV, worthless.
I would recommend fight4theright stops quoting this Bill Hay guy as he seems like a big liar.
Crabdragonman your reading comprehension is lacking. If you follow the links provided in the post they lead to the FEC reports, the money paid out to McPadden and family are disbursements not reimbursements, the memo section does not say what what the money was for. Also the second link shows Michael’s loan report, not a penny has been listed as having been repaid to the candidate. THE CAMPAIGN STILL OWES HIM THE FULL AMOUNT BORROWED. Maybe if you understood what you were reading you would not be calling people liars.
I think it is you that needs to learn a little. My call to the FEC may have been frustrating but it showed that Bill Hay is a liar. The FEC confirmed that money repaid for charges to credit cards can be listed as disbursements or reimbursements, the FEC doesn’t care.
I support Ken Boyd, but to watch liars try to demean an honest man is despicable. Even Joe Thomas gave a big smack-down to Bill Hay this morning. This guy is an embarrassment to the Verga Campaign and should be booted in the rear, as should you for your lack of research.
Crabdragonman once again you fail to understand what is going on. If you would bother to actually read the FEC report you would see that McPadden did not list the disbursements to himself and his wife as reimbursements. The memo section was left blank, and if you bothered to read other parts of the report when Michael reimbursed himself he listed it as a reimbursement and did not leave it blank. When McPadden was questioned on the show what these reimbursements were for he could not say, I find it curious that he could not remember what a $4000.00 reimbursement to his wife was about. I also find it curious that all these major “reimbursements” were for a perfectly round number, similar to what a payroll or consulting fee would be.
P.S. If you have the nerve I know where you can meet with Bill Hay in person and then you can call him a liar to his face.
If you loan yourself 200K and then pay yourself 10k in expenses have you done anything wrong? Without the loan McPadden might have an ethical problem but as I understand it, he’s got about 200k in loans. This means that any money he paid back to himself are his own funds. I don’t see how this is an issue. I’m sure he can show that all the money collected from donors went to campaign expenses.
BTW it’s “Kool-aid” and I’m not supporting McPadden because of the ridiculous email he sent out trying to confuse people with a bogus poll-that’s an ethical lapse. That added to his illogical stand on the marriage amendment has me looking elsewhere in the 5th.But on this issue of money your post makes no sense to me perhaps I just don’t get it.
Follow the links, the campaign still owes the candidate the full amount that he lent it. He is using donor money, he is not repaying himself.
how old is his child?
He looks to be about 25 or 26 from the pictures but they may be a couple of years old.
More of Verga’s pathetic attack machine. Nice work, Bill Hay. McPadden answered your questions on the radio. Please, keep attacking. Your campaign has been nothing but vitriol from day one and people know it.
I don’t know Bill Hay but he has to realize Verga has about as much chance of winning the primary as Obama has of wiping out the the national debt by the end of this year.
I find it interesting that the candidate being “attacked” regularly is McPadden. I don’t have a dog in the race as I live in the 7th district, but I follow this crap ’cause it’s my Country at stake. I think McPadden would be a good option for you 5th’ers, as might Feda. The rest of the pack…forget it. Before any of you make your decision, take the time to attend an event with each candidate. I’d bet most of you posting here haven’t done so, and if you do, you’ll SEE the difference. It’s not in the words spoken, but in the heart and eyes of the person speaking them. I heard a spot on the radio from McKelvey yesterday. “I’ll repeal healthcare…I’ll balance the budget, :::” and on and on. That’s ridiculous! Not that it doesn’t need to be done, but making promises that like are nothing more than politics as usual. He’d be better off being truthful to say, “I”ll fight to repeal healthcare…” etc. You won’t hear that from the candidates that have any sense. Good luck 5th District, I hope you pick the one that can defeat Periello, build consensus and get something done that actually adheres to the Constitution. One last thought…when you visit an event with each candidate, ask a detailed question about the Constitution and see what answer you get. There’s only two that appear to me to have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the document and of the Founders who wrote it. That, my friends, is the number one issue. You can’t fight to defend something you do not understand.
More smears from Verga’s mouthpiece. This makes me really want to vote for Verga.
